The Works Mural Project - round two with Modes of Expression
THE TOP SPOT collaboration with Jo Peel came out of the two commissions running almost simultaneously in Huddersfield through working with Creative Kirklees, Huddersfield University and Temporary Contemporary Gallery.
We spontaneously decided on adding piece of work onto the wall, near the location where Jo Peel was commissioned to paint. We used the available space to join our creative forces together and add more art to a lovely city of Huddersfield.
The wall belongs to the snooker club located by the canal, and I designed the shapes and symbols accordingly, as well as using my Alphabet of Water and Navigation elements. All in all two entirely different styles join the space and bounce off each other. It was ace to work with Jo!

Collaborations
THE WORKS MURAL PROJECT consists of three different creative interventions, joined by the idea of the site specific approach to the site.
I developed the idea during my first mural painted inside the building, where design reached out towards the history of the site. The Works used to belong to the Hunslet Train Engine Company that produced train engines, and it was the biggest company of that kind in UK. It is now a thriving indoor skate park, climbing centre and a place for young people to attend outside of school learning.
Following the research, round two was a collaboration between myself and Eva Hardaker and Bobby Rae from Modes of Expression painting duo.
From the trip to the train archives to developing workshops for local community to brain storming at my studio, we built the composition based on all the stages of the creative process. The inclusiveness of the project and inviting the local community to contribute towards the mural was a key to the success.
The third intervention was again an independent solo project, it is presented here in the ‘Murals’ section.
Big thank you to Chris James (manager at The Works), who brought us together!
